Ranchi, Sept 28: Several restaurants and hotels are providing food options without onions and garlic keeping in mind the changed food preferences of Ranchi citizens during the nine days of Navratri. In some instances, restaurants have added separate food items made of sabudana, singhara, and kuttu among others to their menus as well.
Kaveri, one of the popular restaurants in the city, is among the restaurants that are offering ‘no onion garlic options’ for those observing Navratri. Officials at Kaveri, said, “We do not have any special dishes for Navratri but we are offering vegetable curries without garlic and onion for those who avoid eating it during Navratri.”
On the other hand, Seventh Heaven, another city-based restaurant, is also focusing on variety. It will offer a variety of food for those who are observing Navratri.
Gautam Modi of Seventh Heaven said, “There are many types of vegetarian food in our restaurant which will be cooked without onion and garlic for those who will demand for it during Navratri.” He further added, “We also have masala dosa and sambar prepared without garlic and onion for those who enjoy south Indian food.”
Other restaurants providing similar options of ‘no onion – no garlic’ include Chanakya BNR, The Best, Moti Mahal and Capitol Hill & Capitol Residency.
Apart from providing menu items without onion and garlic on demand, Chef Asit Kundu at Capitol Hill explained, “If guests ask us for special Navratri food, we will provide food items such as Sabudana Kheer, Sabudana Khichdi and Puris made of Singhara.”
Amiyo Petook, a restaurant famous for traditional Bengali Cuisine, is also offering the same, but for all the vegetarian dishes.
Explaining this, restaurant owner Munmun said, “As we prepare traditional Bengali food, and typical vegetarian in the Bengali cuisine is always without onion and garlic. This is done not only during Navratri but also during Saavan. Even the vegetarian food items including ‘Chalu Tarkari – Paneer Ka Dalna’ that contain onion and garlic are prepared without them during the nine days.”
Radisson Blu, on the other hand, is set with a separate Navratri Counter at their Buffet. Talking of it, Adarsh Mishra said, “We have set up a special Navratri counter which serves three-four items including Sabudana Khichdi, kheer or Kuttu puris and more at lunch and dinner.”
“Apart from this, we also have prepared a special platter for the three-day Dandiya Nights that we will be organizing at Heroes. The vegetarian platter will contain sabudana vada, falafel wrap, cheese cigars, paprika potatoes and a mojito,” added Mishra.
