Ranchi, Jan 25: The students who have passed out of Marwari College in Ranchi have accused the college administration of taking money in the name of convocation held to awarding degrees. Students have also submitted an application in this regard to Ranchi University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha on January 19, as the said convocation was held on January 20.
These students have claimed that the college took Rs 1000 more than the examination fee in the final semester in the name of degrees. After this, the students were once again asked to submit 500 per head in the name of convocation.
The students also alleged that every convocation ceremony was held at the convocation pavilion of Ranchi University, however this time the convocation ceremony was held at three places at once. Notably, earlier such allegations were also levelled against Ranchi Women’s College as well. Once after taking the money for the degree along with the examination fees, money was again taken in the name of a degree and convocation.
Meanwhile, the principal of the college, Prof Dr Manoj Kumar has claimed that no extra money has been taken from the students. The degree was given to him using the money that was taken from them during the exam forms. “Rs 500 has been taken from the students only if they were going to attend the convocation but other than that no money has been taken from the students. While those who chose not to take the degree in the convocation are still being provided with their degrees free of charge.
Meanwhile, as per sources, even though 7235 students were to be given their degrees, the convocation was attended by only over 2000 students. This means that if Rs 500 was taken from 2000 students, the college collected around Rs 10 lakh. Notably, this amount was used to organise the convocation, Marwari College management has claimed.
