Ranchi, Dec 21: Ranchi is all set to get the transformed Jaipal Singh Munda stadium by the end of December 2022. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation has taken on the task of modifying the stadium, which would cost Rs 5 crore to complete.

Municipal Commissioner of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) Mukesh Kumar informed that the work is in progress and by the end of 2022 the people of Ranchi will have a beautiful stadium. The birth anniversary celebration of Jaipal Singh, which is to be celebrated on January 3, will be held in the renovated stadium in the year 2023.

“The stadium will also have a space for morning walkers as for now there is no such arrangement,” Kumar said.

“A football field, lawn tennis and basketball courts will be built at the stadium. A gallery will also be constructed to watch the match while sitting in the ground,” Kumar added.

“No concrete work will be done and most of the space will remain filled with greenery. Fountains will be constructed to enliven the stadium. A life-size statue of Jaipal Singh will also be installed,” Kumar further said.

He also said that floodlights will be installed in the stadium so that players can play at night too.

However, the people/spectators may have to suffer as there is no plan for a cafeteria. It was included in the plan earlier but the municipal officials rejected the idea as it would make the stadium dirty.

Jaipal Singh stadium was built in the heart of Ranchi city in memory of Captain Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh of the hockey team that won India gold in the Olympics held in 1928.
