Ranchi, Sept 1: A total of 38 forms have been filed for admissions in undergraduate courses for five colleges under Ranchi University.

As per a list released by RU, Dumri College, Dumri, Gumla has received eight forms; Model Degree College Ghaghra has seven applications; Degree Standard Women’s College, Khunti has received five forms; Women’s College, Simdega has seven and Women’s College, Lohardaga has received 11 applications.

When questioned of the reasons, Rameshwar Bhagat, in-charge Dumri College said, “Several of the courses provided by the college are not mentioned in the Chancellor’s Portal. I believe this to be the main reason for us receiving the lesser number of applications.”

“Established in 1984, the affiliated college had received permission for three sessions in 1992-93. Offering 17 courses in Commerce and Arts, the college has a total of 24 teachers for 540 students. It also has a separate intermediate department with a separate staff and has several high schools within a five km radius,” Bhagat further added.

Meanwhile, Model Degree College in Ghagra, Degree Standard Women’s College also known as Model Women’s College and Women’s College in Simdega were established between 2019 and 2021 and are all constituent colleges.

While explaining about two of them, Raj Kumar Sharma, DSW, RU said, “These colleges were recently inaugurated. They were not inaugurated earlier either because of Covid or subsequent delay in furniture delivery for the said colleges.”

While talking of the college in Ghagra, he said, “It was established in 2019 and has nine departments of Science, Commerce and Arts streams. The teachers will be hired before September 15 as the session is to begin soon this year.” When questioned of the number of seats, he said it has no limitations because of being on rural area.

The Women’s College in Simdega has even begun its session this year. Dr Tiriyo Ekka, in-charge of the college said, “Inaugurated in 2021, the college has a total of five departments including Commerce and Arts streams. Even though there are no teachers at present hiring will soon begin through JPSC.”

On the other hand, when contacted, in-charge of Women’s College Lohardaga initially claimed being busy and requested a call later, however, till the time the report was written, he was yet to pick up the phone despite repeated calls.
