Ranchi: Woman commits suicide in Khalari, police arrest abettors

Ranchi, Aug 10: A woman identified as Chanda Devi committed suicide by hanging herself at Dakra, a village about 40km from Ranchi under the Khalari police station area.

Before committing suicide, Chanda wrote a suicide note on the wall of her room using a lipstick.

Chanda Devi, who was the mother of two children, held her husband Dilip Chouhan and in-laws responsible for her suicide and instructed the police not to allow her husband to even touch her body.

She wrote that she took the extreme step as her husband always used to beat her besides using abusive language. She has written that tired of this abusive language and physical assault, she was embracing death.

As police came to know about the suicide note through the FIR registered by Chanda’s brother, they swung into action and arrested Dilip Chouhan and his mother.

A police official said Chanda’s husband is a CCL employee and had solemnised marriage after his love affair with her in 2019. After marriage, their relationship soured and matters reached before the police after a social attempt to settle the matrimonial dispute failed.

SP (Rural) Naushad Alam confirmed the situation saying, “An FIR has been registered under section 304 B of IPC in this connection as the matter appears to be a case of abetting a woman to commit suicide due to dowry.”
