Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court on Monday heard a public interest litigation (PIL) demanding repair of Ranchi’s internal and connecting roads. During the hearing, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation submitted its affidavit, while the state government requested more time.
Affidavit submitted, more time granted to state
The division bench of Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice Rajesh Shankar directed the state government to file its affidavit by Tuesday, May 6. The next hearing has now been scheduled for the same day.
In its affidavit, Ranchi Municipal Corporation stated that roads like Lalji Hirji Road, Vishnu Talkies Lane, Madhukam Road, and Mount Motor Road fall under its jurisdiction. The Corporation has written to the Urban Development Department on September 25, 2024, and March 6, 2025, seeking approval of funds for repairs.
Petition highlights risks to patients and public
The PIL, filed by Shubham Kataruka, claims that except for major roads, most arterial and link roads in Ranchi are in poor condition. The petitioner especially highlighted the area around Bada Talab, where large potholes pose serious risks. It was also argued that ambulances transporting patients struggle to navigate these deteriorated roads.
