Guwahati, Feb 18: Sakibul Gani made history as he became the first player to score a triple century on his first-class debut.
In a Plate Group match in Kolkata, Gani, who made his Ranji Trophy debut on Thursday, slammed a triple-ton against Mizoram.
Gani smashed 56 fours and two sixes in his knock of 341 runs in 405 balls. Intrestingly, the previous record was also held by an Indian player from Madhya Pradesh, Ajay Rothera who struck 267 runs against Hyderabad in the same competition in December 20.
Gani (22) made his List A debut for Bihar in 2019 and last played for the state team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in November 2021.
The hitter stepped in during Bihar’s match against Mizoram, when they were down to 71/3 after losing their top-order players early in the innings. However, Gani and Babul Kumar (who is still undefeated after a double-ton) put on an astonishing 538-run fourth-wicket stand.
Notably, the Ranji Trophy will be held into two phase, with the pre-Indian Premier League (IPL) phase set to take place from February 10 to March 15. From May 30 through June 26, the post-IPL phase will take place. This season’s Ranji Trophy will include 64 matches across 62 days.
