New Delhi, June 9: Mumbai defeated Uttarakhand by a massive 725 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2022 quarterfinals on Thursday.

With this win, Mumbai achieved the largest margin of victory (by runs) in First Class cricket history.

Mumbai bowled out their opponent for a paltry 69 runs, breaking New South Wales’ previous record of 685 runs against Queensland in 1929/30. Mumbai, in fact, set a mammoth goal for Uttarakhand after captain Prithvi Shaw (72) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (103) put in yet another outstanding performance with the bat. On 261/3, they declared the innings and struck Uttarakhand hard.

Uttarakhand’s collapse was so complete that only wicket-keeper Shivam Khurana (25 not out) and Chandela were able to reach double figures. Mohit Awasthi (1/5) of Mumbai, a medium pacer, also did an excellent job. Parkar was named  player of the match.

Now, in the semi-finals of the coveted domestic championship, Mumbai will face Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, Mumbai had declared 647/8 in their first essay, riding on debutant Suved Parkar’s (252) maiden double hundred and Sarfaraz Khan’s tonne (173).

As none of the Uttarakhand hitters showed any spine, Kulkarni (3/11), in-form left-arm spinner Shams Mulani (3/15), and off-spinner Tanush Kotian (3/13) each took three wickets.
