New Delhi: The political storm surrounding Operation Sindoor intensified further on Tuesday as Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera launched a sharp counterattack on the BJP, particularly targeting remarks made by IT cell head Amit Malviya. Khera raised pointed questions about the government’s handling of the operation and took veiled digs at Prime Minister Narendra Modi without directly naming him.
Questions over pre-warning to Pakistan
Khera questioned whether Pakistan was forewarned about Operation Sindoor. “The government must clarify—was Pakistan informed in advance? If so, is that the reason why terrorists like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed managed to escape?” he asked, echoing earlier concerns raised by the Congress.
Jibe over ‘Nishan-e-Pakistan’ remark
Responding to Malviya’s accusation that Rahul Gandhi deserved the “Nishan-e-Pakistan” honor, Khera turned the narrative around. “As far as Nishan-e-Pakistan is concerned, let’s not forget that Morarji Desai remains the only Indian leader to have received it,” he said. He went on to name BJP veteran L.K. Advani as another possible “contender,” and then added a pointed remark aimed at “the one who went to eat biryani uninvited at Nawaz Sharif’s home,” clearly referencing PM Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan in 2015.
Violation of diplomatic norms, says Congress
Calling that visit an act of “diplomatic indiscipline,” Khera hinted that cozying up to the Pakistani leadership without formal protocol raises bigger concerns than asking tough questions about national security. The Congress leader accused the BJP of deflecting from serious issues by resorting to personal attacks.
BJP-Congress war of words escalates
The exchange comes after Amit Malviya labelled Rahul Gandhi as the “Mir Jafar of the new century” and accused him of speaking in a tone that favours Pakistan. Khera’s response indicates that the Congress is not shying away from countering the BJP’s aggressive narrative and is instead turning the spotlight back on the government’s foreign policy decisions.
