Jamshedpur, June 14: The relentless heat wave which Jharkhand is witnessing for more than a week now is expected to continue till June 17, stated a Meteorological office forecast today.

IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre said that the heat wave is expected to prevail at isolated places over southern and north-eastern parts of the state,  at least for the next 72- hours.

Weathermen also did not rule out the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over eastern and central parts of the state in the next three days.

“Day’ s temperature would be on the higher side due to the prevailing heat wave and Loo. There seems to be no respite from heat and humidity for the next 72- hours, ” said a duty officer at Ranchi Meteorological Centre.

The absence of rain and the delay in the arrival of monsoon this year are some of the reasons for prolonged heat wave conditions.

Today’s discomfort index was also found to be very high in most places.

Jamshedpur recorded 42.4 degrees Celsius in the past 24- hours while Daltonganj topped the Celsius chart with 44.2 degrees Celsius. Ranchi recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius

Satellite pictures suggested that the north-south trough was today running from the cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh to north Odisha across Chhattisgarh at 0.9 km above the mean sea level.
