Patna: Just ahead of the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Lalu Prasad Yadav family has received a major relief as the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi postponed its verdict in the Land-for-Job case. The court has now deferred the judgment to December 4, providing temporary respite to the RJD chief and his family.

Background of the Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed charge sheets against former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri Devi, Misa Bharti, Tejashwi Yadav, Hema Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, and several others. The case pertains to the period between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu served as Railway Minister.

According to the CBI, land parcels were allegedly taken from job seekers in exchange for appointments in the Indian Railways. The agency claims that several candidates from Bihar and Jharkhand transferred their properties to Lalu’s family or associates in return for employment. Charges include criminal conspiracy, cheating, and violations under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

RJD Denies Wrongdoing

Leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) have consistently dismissed the allegations, terming the case as politically motivated. Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition in Bihar, reiterated that his family has “done no wrong” and that “truth will prevail.”

The deferral of the verdict has sparked significant political discussion in Bihar, given its timing just before the elections.
