Ramgarh, Mar 21: Shou E Xuan, Director of Liaison Affair Section of Taipei Economic and Cultural Center, New Delhi, reached China Cemetery in Ramgarh Monday afternoon.
Chinese representative David from Kolkata was also present with him. The duo worshiped in the Buddhist temple. Both the officers bowed down by offering flowers at the graves of the soldiers in the cemetery.
David said, “Shou is from Taiwan and has reached China Cemetery for the first time.”
Shou E Xuan said, “The tomb of the Chinese soldiers of World War II who had fought with Indian soldiers here. The soldiers of both countries fought with Japan. I have come here in honour of those soldiers.”
The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center is located in Basant Vihar, New Delhi which is the representative office of Taiwan in India. It serves as a de-facto embassy in the absence of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and India.
There are graves of 667 Chinese soldiers in the China Cemetery located in the Bujurg Jamira of Ramgarh. During World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945, they were martyred while exercising with Indian soldiers here.
It is said that most of the soldiers died due to the bites of poisonous snakes and diseases like malaria. This China cemetery is located in the Barkakana area, Ramgarh Jharkhand.
Taiwan citizens, including officials of the Indian Consulate General of Taiwan, often visit here to express their gratitude in honour of the martyred soldiers.
