New Delhi, Aug 21: Narottam Mishra, the state’s home minister has ordered the police to investigate into the situation a day after Madhya Pradesh’s Mahakaleshwar temple’s priests protested Zomato’s advertising featuring Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan.
According to Mishra, the social media commercial video appears to have been altered at first glance, he told reporters on Sunday.
On Saturday, two of the revered temple’s priests demanded that Zomato take down the advertisement because they felt it was offensive to Hindu sentiments.
In the advertisement, Hrithik Roshan says he felt like having a ‘thali’ (food platter) in Ujjain so he ordered it from ‘Mahakal’.
They asserted that the advertisement offends Hindus since devotees are given ‘prasad’ on a thali.
The priests claimed that they had also been in touch with the Mahakal temple trust’s chairman, Ujjain Collector Ashish Singh, to request action against the business so that no one would ever again make fun of Hinduism.
On Saturday, Collector Singh referred to the advertisement as ‘misleading’ asserting that the temple provides free meals as ‘prasad’ and does not sell them.
