Mumbai, June 25: As the political unrest in Maharashtra intensifies, Shiv Sena has denied the claim made by renegade MLA Eknath Shinde that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has cancelled the protection of 38 MLAs.
Shinde in his letter wrote, “The protection of Shiv Sena MLAs has been withdrawn by order of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. The government is responsible for protecting them and their families.”
“The security provided to us at our residence and to our family members as per the protocol has been illegally and unlawfully withdrawn as an act of revenge. Needless to say, this sinister move is another attempt to break our resolve and I am being arm twisted to give in to the demands of the MVA government comprising of NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress goons,” he added.
However, Dilip Walse Patil, the home minister for Maharashtra, asserted that neither the chief minister nor the home ministry had authorised the removal of any MLA’s protection. He asserted that the accusations made on Twitter are untrue and without merit.
According to the minister, any MLA who claims that their protection has been withdrawn is mistaken. He added that their houses and family had provided security. Sanjay Raut, the head of the Shiv Sena, has also denied the accusations.
Meanwhile, in the Balaji area of Katraj of Pune, Shiv Sena members today vandalised Tanaji Sawant’s workplace. One of the state’s dissident MLAs, Sawant is currently camped out in Guwahati, Assam.
