Ranchi, Sept 8: The head of the department (HOD) of the cardiology department of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr Vineet Mahajan said that he would be camping in the hospital for an indefinite period till his patient Abdullah Malik (56) is recovered fully in order to prevent any sabotage.
While speaking to Lagatar24.com, Dr Mahajan said that the patient named Abdullah Malik, a resident of Hazaribagh, came to RIMS in April this year and was under Dr Anshul Kumar for five months. He added that the patient’s heart health was at 50 per cent when he first came but as Dr Kumar delayed the surgery, heart health also came down to around 25 per cent.
He added that he has been camping in the hospital since Monday and will continue to do so until the patient’s heart health reaches back to 45-50 per cent as the doctor wants to take no risk and wants to avoid any type of sabotage from anyone, be it internal or external factors.
“The condition of the patient’s heart was not in a good condition when I took over the case around a month back. He was a very high-risk patient. The process took some time as it was done under the ‘Ayushman scheme’ of the central government. The surgery was done on Monday which took around 4-5 hours and a total of three bypass works were done. The patient is well and recovering under proper surveillance,” Dr Mahajan explained.
He added that it was a joint decision of the medical board and the administration to conduct the surgery as the patient was not in a good condition.
The cardiology department of RIMS has been in controversy for the last few months. More than 40 patients are still queued up in the CTVS department who are waiting for their operation. Recently, Raj Bhavan also sought an answer from the RIMS management regarding this.
It stated that the problem of the patients should be resolved in consultation with the concerned doctors. After resolving the matter, instructions have been given to provide the information to the Raj Bhavan.
Controversy surrounding RIMS Cardio dept
The HOD of the cardiology department Dr Mahajan had earlier complained against the management and the doctors of his department at the Bariatu police station for taking money from the patients before the operation.
After this allegation, the RIMS management formed an inquiry committee under the leadership of the medical superintendent and found some evidence against Dr Anshul. The patient named Abdullah Malik blamed Dr Anshul Kumar for taking Rs 40,000 cash from him before the operation along with Rs 1,100 for medicines.
He added that after taking money at RIMS, Dr Anshul told the patient to go to a certain private clinic and also provided the clinic’s slip as evidence.
In defence, Dr Anshul said that all the allegations which are being made are baseless. In an earlier interview, he said that he and Dr Rakesh Choudhary have started the CTVS department in RIMS and have performed complex operations over the last three years. All the allegations that are made are completely baseless, he added.
There has been conflict between the HOD and the doctors of the cardio dept but the patients are the ones who have been suffering the most as operations have been getting postponed for the last five months.
