Ranchi, April 19: Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department added yet another feather in its cap by performing a redo valve replacement surgery.
Led by department head Dr Vineet Mahajan, the department team replaced the valve of a 23-yr-old girl a second time to give her a new lease of life. The surgery done on April 18 came to light when a RIMS insider revealed it.
“This surgery is the first redo surgery in the history of RIMS Hospital. It was a complicated surgery as the patient had already undergone valve replacement surgery once in Gujarat. Seven years after the surgery, the patient’s valve stopped working again, due to which it became necessary to do redo (second time) surgery to save her life. Such surgery is done in advanced centres of the country and is very costly,” the insider said.
“This surgery was done free of cost. RIMS anesthetist Dr Shio Priya also played an important role in the surgery as the surgery lasted for long,” the insider added.
Dr Mahajan confirmed the achievement explaining the complication of the surgery.
“Such surgery used to be complex as the heart gets stuck from inside after a surgery and operation requires a lot of experience and expertise. It took eight hours to complete the surgery,” he said.
Informing about the condition of the patient, he said: “The patient is completely better. Her health is improving rapidly. Soon the patient is expected to recover completely and be discharged from the hospital.”
Family members and relatives of the girl are happy after the complicated surgery was done and that too without any expense from their pocket. The relatives repeatedly thanked and expressed their gratitude towards Dr. Mahajan and his team for this achievement.
