Ranchi, Aug.14: The Medicine department head of Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Dr Umesh Prasad, passed away this morning at his residence.
He was suffering from multiple myeloma, a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell, and was under treatment for a long time.
Notably, Dr Prasad had taken proper care of RJD chief Lalu Prasad for at least two years when the latter was undergoing treatment at RIMS in the capacity of a convicted prisoner of Birsa Munda Central Jail and had played an important role to send him to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for proper treatment.
Dr Prasad was given charge of the head of the medicine department after the retirement of Dr J.K.Mitra a month ago. After taking charge he used to take proper care of the department. Despite illness and suggestions of his colleagues to stay at home, he used to come to see patients in his wheelchair.
His death made his colleagues emotional. State health minister Banna Gupta expressed his condolences over the death of the doctor.
