Ranchi, Apr 9: After several orders and a series of reprimands from the Jharkhand High Court to fill up vacancies in the hospital, the Jharkhand government and the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) have invited applications for 226 vacancies for several posts in different departments on Saturday. The government claims this has been done with an aim to improve the health facilities provided at RIMS and to provide timely and proper treatment to the common people.

Notably, till now, the shortage of doctors according to the need of various departments was hampering better treatment. In view of this, the government has taken out several vacancies for various departments of RIMS at once.

The RIMS management believes after the vacancies are filled, timely treatment will be easier for those who reach RIMS for treatment from every nook of the state. The provision of the post-wise reservation is applicable in the vacancies drawn for RIMS. The selection will be done through walk-in interviews on April 26, 27 and 28. Qualification, Experience and age have been prescribed according to the posts. Detailed information is available on the RIMS website https://www.rimsranchi.ac.in.

The maximum number of vacancies for appointment in various departments of RIMS is for the post of Senior Resident, which is 62. Similarly, there are 47 posts for Associate Professor, 43 for Assistant Professor, and 9 for Additional Professor. Apart from this, there are 5 posts for General Duty Medical Officer, 14 for Senior Resident (Trauma Centre), 14 for Senior Resident (Super Specialty) and 32 posts for appointment of Tutors in various departments.

Meanwhile, various senior officials have had mixed reactions to this announcement. A surgeon at Sadar Hospital and an alumnus of RIMS, Dr Ajit Kumar, said, “It is a most welcome decision. Hope other vacancies are soon filled up as well. If RIMS will get faculty positions filled it will help in starting new DM and MCH Courses.”

On the other hand, a senior professor at RIMS said, “Absolutely wrong steps by RIMS management. First teachers working there should get the promotion then fresh appointments can be done. Moreover, the entry point is Assistant Professor as in AIIMS, then why are there advertisements for other posts?

Along with this, the RIMS Teachers’ Association at an emergency meeting over the issue, expressed grave concern for the same. The association strongly opposed the direct appointment by RIMS to the posts of Professor, Additional Professor and Associate Professor in all departments.

Members stated, “When people are already holding posts for professor/associate professor, then how can the management advertise the post as vacant.” It was further stated that as per Para 11 of RIMS Regulations, these posts are filled by promotion. In the RTI received from AIIMS New Delhi, it has been said that direct appointment in AIIMS New Delhi is done only for the post of Assistant Professor. The rest of the higher posts are filled by promotion.
