Dhanbad Nov 24: Few road robbers hacked a female patient to death and injured her husband on the Baliapur –Patlabadi road under Baliapur police station, around 22 km away from Dhanbad district headquarters on Tuesday evening.

Officer in-charge of Baliapur police station, Sweta Kumari, said that the incident took place at around 7.30 pm.

Uttam Dey along with his wife Pratibha Devi (28) and 2.5 years old son was returning by bike to his village Susniliya, under Kalubathan OP, in the evening after getting his wife checked up from a homeopath  doctor in Baliapur.

As they were crossing the Salpatra- Huchukdih  road,  some robbers attacked them with sharp weapon. They hit on the neck of Pratibha Devi. When Uttam tried to protest, they injured him too. However, on seeing other vehicles coming on the road, the criminals fled away into the forest.

Local villagers brought them to the nearby Baliapur community health centre (CHC) immediately. The CHC doctors referred Pratibha Devi to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, on seeing her condition as critical, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Uttam Dey works in a private firm and has two sons.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sindri, Abhishek Kumar, reached the spot at night and took details of the incident.

“We have started a search operation to find the criminals involved in the incident and will soon  nab them,” claimed Sweta Kumari, OC Baliapur police station.
