Bengaluru: Former cricketer Robin Uthappa is facing an arrest warrant for alleged provident fund fraud linked to his clothing company, Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd. The warrant, issued by Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Sadakshari Gopal Reddy on December 4, states that Mr. Uthappa has until December 27 to clear dues of nearly ₹24 lakh or face arrest.
Allegations and Legal Action
The 39-year-old, who serves as the company’s director, is accused of deducting provident funds from employees’ salaries but failing to deposit the amount into their accounts. The outstanding dues amount to ₹23,36,602. The Provident Fund Office emphasized that the non-payment has hindered the settlement of PF accounts for workers.
The arrest warrant instructs the police to apprehend Mr. Uthappa if he fails to remit the dues before the deadline, noting that the funds are crucial for the welfare of the employees.
