New Delhi, March 19: Rohan Bopanna (43) won the men’s doubles championship in Indian Wells, setting a record for the oldest ATP Masters 1000 winner.

Bopanna and his Australian playing partner Matthew Ebden won their second championship together and first of the year by defeating the top-ranked Dutch duo of Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski of Britain 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.
The Indian celebrity Bopanna stated that the key to his success was coffee. The Coorg area of Karnataka is home to a coffee plantation owned by his family.

“Truly special. It’s called Tennis paradise for a reason. I’ve been coming here over the years and seeing all these guys win and I’m really happy that Matt and I were able to do this and get this title here,” Bopanna said.

“There have been some tough matches, close matches and today we played against one of the best teams out there, so I’m really happy we got the title,” he added.

Former world number three in doubles Bopanna, whose family owns a coffee farm in the Karnataka state of southern India’s Coorg region, claimed that the beverage was the key to his success.

Mahesh Bhupathi, a legend in Indian doubles, praised Bopanna’s longevity and capacity to reach his peak late in his career.
