Mumbai, April 14:  MI captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakh while the rest of the members of their XI were fined Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower, for slow over rate against Punjab Kings on Wednesday.

“The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Punjab Kings at the MCA Stadium, Pune on April 13,” IPL said in a release.

“This was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined  Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined  Rs 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” it further added.

Notably, Punjab Kings batted first and scored a solid 198 for 5 in the key match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium. Mayank Agarwal hit 52 off 32 balls, while Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 70.

Dewald Brevis, an 18-year-old South African, smashed 49 off 25 balls, but Mumbai lost wickets at vital times and lost by 12 runs after being reduced to 186-9.

MI, the five-time winners, are still without a win in this year’s Indian Premier League and are currently buried at the bottom of the standings.
