New Delhi, Dec 16: Indian captain Rohit Sharma is likely to join the squad for the second and final Test against Bangladesh, starting from December 22 in Mirpur.

According to sources close to ANI, he will recover in time for the second Test match and head to Bangladesh for the game. Due to a thumb injury received in the second ODI, Rohit was forced to miss the third and final ODI against Bangladesh as well as the opening Test.

The medical staff discovered during a special consultation in Mumbai that this ongoing injury was keeping him out of play and even forcing him out of the first Test against Bangladesh, which started on December 14.

In his absence, Abhimanyu Easwaran, an uncapped batter, took over as the leader of the Indian Test team. Easwaran (27) has participated in 78 first-class games and has amassed 5576 runs at a 45.33 average.

Not only Rohit Sharma, but other more cricketers, including Ravindra Jadeja (shoulder), Mohammad Shami (back), and Jasprit Bumrah (back), were unable to join the Indian team (knee). These elite players were unable to recover in time and were therefore disqualified from both Test matches.

These players’ replacements have been announced as Navdeep Saini and Saurabh Kumar. Jaydev Unadkat, a fast bowler, has also been added to India’s 17-man roster.
