Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation has launched an initiative to provide better and more accessible sanitation facilities across the city’s wards, with Rs 43.25 crore approved for the construction of various types of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.
Multiple Toilet Categories Planned Across the City
The funds will be used to build individual household toilets across different areas of the city, along with community, public and modern-facility toilets. Under the scheme, 250 individual toilets, 50 community toilets, 65 public toilets, 20 aspirational toilets and 362 unit toilets are proposed for construction. A meeting was held on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav along with corporation officials.
Officials Discuss Site Selection and Implementation Timeline
The meeting saw detailed discussions on selecting sites for toilet construction, ensuring the availability of necessary facilities, and drawing up a time-bound action plan for completion of the work. The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to prepare designs for the selected sites promptly and complete the tendering process to begin construction work at the earliest.
Inspection of Sites to Be Completed by August 15
Gaurav also instructed officials to complete inspections of all proposed sites by August 15, stating that clean and accessible toilets are not merely a facility but an important matter linked to citizens’ health, dignity and the identity of a clean city, stressing that all work must be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The meeting was attended by the corporation’s superintending engineer, executive engineer, assistant public health officer and other relevant officials.
