Ranchi, Feb 4: “Teachers are like an earthen lantern, that burns self to illuminate lives of others,” said Governor Ramesh Bais on Friday. The Governor was addressing students, teachers and guests on the occasion of the 35th Convocation ceremony of Ranchi University.
Congratulating the toppers and gold medalists on the occasion, Governor Bais said, “I also congratulate all teachers and parents of students on this occasion. It is an unforgettable day in the lives of these students who now enter a new chapter in their lives.”
Addressing the students, the Governor said, “Till now, you would follow the path that your parents, teachers and elders showed you, however, now you enter a stage in life where you will be responsible for your future decisions. Education brings out confidence in you, but what is more important is humility. Its main objective is to make students independent and confident along with making you polite and humble.”
“Life begins in a society, is sustained in a society and is meant to improve the society. Students should not just achieve bookish knowledge but should work to hone one’s consciousness and awareness. Jharkhand is a land where Birsa Munda taught us the importance of organization and collectivity; I trust the youth here will work towards taking the state forward culturally and work towards the betterment of the society,” the Chancellor added.
Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Kamini Kumar on the occasion said, “In its journey of more than 60 years, the Ranchi University saw many ups and downs.” Admiring the fighting spirit against all odds of teachers, officials and students of the University, the VC commended the achievements of the students and teachers stating that, there is a lot more ground to cover and several peaks to climb ahead.
The VC further said, “Facing the Covid-19 pandemic, it taught us the importance of several minute things. However, now the students should work towards improving society and the nation.”
Talking of the new courses in the university, she said courses of Guidance and Counseling and Yogic Sciences have already begun. She further said the university is also working to develop and begin regional language courses and work towards showcasing their importance in society.
Addressing the students VC Kumar said, “Convocation is a time where we are awarded for the hard work and dedication in the past years. Convocation isn’t just the end of education but marks the beginning of a new journey in our lives, which leads us to great heights. We face several problems that showcase the reality of the world and society around us.”
She further said, “Students of a university or a college are its brand ambassadors, thus I suggest that you stay humble with each success in life.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Asha Lakra was also awarded her doctorate degree in Geography. Toppers and Gold medalists on the occasion included Anjali Kumari, Shifa Afreen, Aastha Bharadwaj, Tanu Kumari, Jagriti Singh, Sangeet Kumar Das, Deepika Sharma, Kiran Kumari, Sangeet Kumar Das, Vasundhara Minz, Monica Beck, Shreya Kumari, Rajvardhan Singh, Bhavya Giri, Trishala Sharma, Nishant Sinha, Jyoti Kumari, jaya Kumari, Rathin Mukherjee, Chumki Roy, Sahil NAyan, Afrin Nisha Shine, Sony Prasad Shine, Sarika Bada, Pooja Singh, Dheeraj Gupta, Saket Suman, Priyanka Vishwakarma, Neha Rani Tigga, and Kavita Mahto.
Along with students and professors of the University, members of Senate, Syndicate and the Jharkhand Academic Council were present at the ceremony.
