Moscow, Feb 28: Russia ordered Alphabet Inc.’s Google to immediately limit access to information posted as part of Google Ads that it claimed contained incorrect information about Russian military and civilians killed in Ukraine.
Roskomnadzor, the state communications regulator, said it had issued a letter to Google demanding the removal of the illegal items and that it would ban internet services that disseminate such information.
As Russian missiles rain down on Ukrainian cities, Moscow has stepped up attempts to dominate the narrative in the news media and on social media platforms.
Earlier on Saturday, Alphabet Inc. Google, prohibited Russia’s state-owned media outlet RT and other channels from collecting money for ads on their websites, apps, and YouTube videos in a move reminiscent of Facebook’s response to the invasion of Ukraine.
