Kyiv, March 4: Regional authorities on Friday announced that Russian troops had entered the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Mykolayiv for the first time.
Governor Vitaliy Kim claimed fighting was taking place in various regions of the city in a video message posted online.
“Let’s not get nervous,” he said.
Notably, Mykolaiv is close to the city of Kherson and has a population of nearly half a million.
Earlier in the day, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest in Ukraine’s southeast was taken by Russian armed forces.
