Kyiv, Feb 27: Russian troops have entered Ukraine’s second city Kharkiv and fighting is under way, the head of the regional administration said.

“The Russian enemy’s light vehicles broke into the city of Kharkiv. The Ukrainian armed forces are eliminating the enemy,” he said.

According to Reuters, two large explosions were reported south of Kyiv in Vasylkiv early on Sunday, as Russian forces began marching in from all sides towards the Ukrainian capital. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated its troops had been ordered to restart their onslaught “in all directions” as Russia’s aggression spread to the streets of various Ukrainian cities. On Saturday, outgunned Ukrainian soldiers held the capital for the third day, as the fighting raged across the country. Volodymyr Zelensky, a stubborn Ukrainian president, urged residents to protect the country while refusing to leave Kyiv.

Meanwhile, evacuation of Indians stranded in Ukraine continued on Sunday as 219 people got off from the first flight that flew them home from Bucharest in Romania.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal received them at the Mumbai airport. “We are happy that 219 of our citizens, who are mostly students, the majority of them girls, have come back safely. The Prime Minister especially asked me to go to Mumbai to ensure that they are taken care of,” he said.
