Jamshedpur, Feb 2: In an attempt to accomplish the mission of “Zero Scrap” zone, South Eastern Railway has achieved record scrap sale of Rs 257 crore during the period from April 2021 to January 2022 of the current financial year (2021-22).
The scraps were sold on a competitive and transparent e-auction platform. This is in comparison to the sale of scrap materials worth Rs 151 crore achieved during the corresponding period of the last fiscal.
The scrap sale of Rs 257 crore has been achieved by selling 26,257 metric tonnes of scrap rails, 97,167 numbers of pre-stressed concrete sleepers, 1,045 numbers of condemned wagons, 67 numbers of condemned coaches, one condemned loco, two diesel locos, 872 tonnes of non-ferrous scrap, 16,284 tonnes of ferrous scrap and other miscellaneous items.
A railway spokesperson said making South Eastern Railway a “Zero Scrap” zone was one of the mission areas of the Indian Railways.
“Necessary steps are being taken by all the railway divisions including Ranchi, Chakradharpur and workshops to realise value from sale of unserviceable materials lying along tracks, workshops, sheds, coaching depots etc,” he added.
Notably, sale of scrap materials helps in revenue generation and also in maintaining better upkeep of the railway premises.
