Jamshedpur, Aug 19: South Eastern Railway has dispatched 400 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen ( LMO) to Bangladesh in just two days, for treatment of Covid-19 patients in that country.
The consignment of liquid medical oxygen was sent in 20 containers carried by two Oxygen Express trains to Benapole in Bangladesh.
Both the trains carrying liquid medical oxygen left for their destination from Rourkela railway station, which falls under South Eastern Railway’s Chakradharpur division.
One train left Rourkela carrying 202 tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in 10 containers on Wednesday while the other train carried 197 tonnes of liquid oxygen on Thursday.
A railway official said, ” The consignment of liquid medical oxygen was sent as per the requirement of the Bangladesh government. Sending 400 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen to an overseas country in two days is a record in itself.”
Notably, the first Oxygen Express train for Bangladesh was sent to Benapole from Tatanagar on July 24 for treatment of Covid affected patients in that country.
Till now, 10 Oxygen Express trains have been sent to Bangladesh from Tatanagar and Rourkela under the Chakradharpur division of the South Eastern Railway.
In order to meet the growing demand for oxygen for treatment of Covid affected patients, South Eastern Railway has been running Oxygen Express Trains since April for ensuring quick transportation and a smooth supply of oxygen.
