Ranchi, Dec.11: Children in conflict with the law who are being held in observation homes in Dumardaga awaiting trial under the Juvenile Justice Act are not safe.

This came to the fore after a lady whose16-yr-old son is kept in observation following an allegation of theft, made ahue and cry sharing a video in which a child in conflict with law is being beaten by security personnel black and blue.

The lady shared the video with the police and the observation home authorities saying her son was also being beaten in the same way and due to this he sustained internal injury. She alleged that due to internal injury blood came from the stool of her son but no one takes his care.

The lady got the video from a child in conflict released from there a few days ago.

As officials of the concerned Sadar police station came to know about the situation, they rushed to the observation home and talked to the lady and chalked out a strategy for legal action.

Officer-in-charge of Sadar police station, Shyam Kishore Mahto, confirmed the allegation made by the lady.

“Son of the lady is safe. The video which she was showing is old. A child in conflict with law was being beaten when he was brought back to the observation home after his escape from there. An FIR is yet to be registered in the matter,” OC Mahto said.

“A section of boys, who are no longer juvenile, are responsible for the same. We are contacting authorities to organize an age determination test and transfer all those to Birsa Munda Central Jail who despite attaining the age of 18 are staying in the observation home against the norms,” he added.

The lady alleged that drugs, alcohol and marijuana are being supplied in the observation home and life of those staying there is at stake.
