Hazaribag, May 23: Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribag remains in the news always for the wrong reasons. This time a couple has charged a hospital staff for changing his newborn son with a girl child. When the hospital told the couple to go for a DNA test at their own cost, they were left with no other option but to leave without further protest.

Sources said in the labour room of the hospital, one Mantu Paswan from Lawalong of Chatra came here on Monday with his wife for delivery. Mantu Paswan said that one of the outsourcing staff informed him that a son has been born. He happily asked him to pay Rs 2000. When the money was not given, the staff handed over the daughter in his wife’s lap and then Mantu charged the staff. Mantu demanded a probe and the return of his newly born son.

Mantu said he wanted justice and if denied would complain to the police as well. He said earlier also such an incident had occurred in this hospital. Last year, a woman was also caught stealing a child and was sent to jail. The supervisor of outsourcing said this is a false allegation. It has never happened in the hospital that someone’s child has been changed.

When asked, hospital superintendent Dr Vinod Kumar said that this is a false allegation. There is no such case. He also said that the relatives happily gave money to the staff. If the child has been changed and the relatives of the patient are demanding a DNA test, then they can apply to the police station and get the DNA test done, he told them.
