The Supreme Court’s request for an immediate hearing of the suit contesting the Bihar Government’s notification for conducting the Caste Census in the State was brought up by a lawyer. On Friday, a bench presided by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud will hear the petition.

Meanwhile, another petition was moved in the apex court recently by a social worker Akhilesh Kumar through Advocates Barun Kumar Sinha and Abhishek, who, in his petition, said, “That the cause of action arose on/from the impugned Notification dated 06.06.2022 issued by Deputy Secretary, Government of Bihar, whereby the decision of the Government to conduct Caste Census has been communicated to the media and public at large.”

Akhilesh Kumar, the petitioner, claimed that the State of Bihar’s judgement is unlawful, arbitrary, illogical, unconstitutional, and devoid of legal standing through the assistance of attorneys Barun Kumar Sinha and Abhishek.

In Bihar, there are a total of more than 200 castes, and they are all divided into the following categories: General Category, OBC, EBC, Scheduled Caste, and Scheduled Tribes.

According to the complaint, there are 113 castes in the state of Bihar that are classified as OBC and EBC, eight that fall under the category of Upper Caste, around 22 that fall under the Scheduled Caste category, and about 29 that fall under the Scheduled category.
