New Delhi, June 14: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Jharkhand government to file its plea before the registrar seeking an urgent hearing on the petition challenging the High Court’s decision on the maintainability of a PIL involving shell businesses reportedly linked to Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his allies.
Before the vacation bench of Justices AS Bopanna and Vikram Nath, Jharkhand government counsel mentioned his plea seeking an urgent hearing on a petition challenging the High Court ruling. The court instructed the counsel to provide the information to the Registrar.
The state government challenged the Jharkhand High Court’s judgment on the maintainability of a PIL in connection with shell businesses allegedly linked to state Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his cronies in a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed in the Supreme Court on Friday.
Notably, in a 79-page judgment, the Jharkhand High Court dismissed the arguments made by eminent counsel Kapil Sibal and Mukul Rohatgi (questioning the maintainability of the two PILs brought against the Chief Minister and his colleagues).
