New Delhi, Aug 10: The Supreme Court declared on Wednesday, to the great relief of the now-suspended BJP leader, that the Delhi Police will conduct the investigation into the 10 cases against Nupur Sharma that had been filed across the nation as a result of her remarks regarding the Prophet Mohammed. Due to her remarks on the Prophet Mohammed, Nupur Sharma found herself in the centre of a huge international controversy.

“Since this Court has already taken cognizance of serious threat to life and security of the petitioner, we direct that all FIRs against Nupur Sharma be transferred and clubbed for investigation to the Delhi Police,” the bench of Justices Surya Kant and JB Pardiwala ordered.

The court further stated that additional FIRs against Sharma for her comments regarding the Prophet will be immediately sent to the Delhi Police. The top court announced that Nupur Sharma’s temporary protection from arrest, which was granted on July 19, will also continue.

The Bengal government was arguing against Sharma’s request to combine and transfer the several FIRs filed against her in various states into one while the court heard her appeal.

The case was not on the court’s cause list yesterday night, even though it was initially scheduled for hearing on August 10. This afternoon, a new list was made public, designating Wednesday for the hearing on the subject.
