New Delhi, May 19: The Supreme Court granted interim bail to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Thursday in a forgery case and ordered him to file a normal bail application with the competent court within two weeks.
The interim bail will be in effect until the court decides on the regular bail application. If the court decides not to issue normal bail, the interim bail will operate for another two weeks.
The order, passed by Justices L Nageswara Rao, BR Gavai, and AS Bopanna, invoked the exceptional powers granted under Article 142 of the Constitution.
The case involved accused land grabbing and forgery in connection with Rampur Public School. He’s been accused of falsifying building certificates to get the institution recognised.
The Allahabad High Court granted Khan bail in a land grab case earlier this month. The Supreme Court had also expressed displeasure over the delay in deciding the bail application of Azam Khan in the land grab case.
