New Delhi, Jan 27: The Supreme Court on Thrusday granted 10 days protection from arrest to Maharashtra BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in connection with an attempt-to-murder case lodged in Sindhudurg district last month.
The apex court has also directed him to surrender before the trial court and seek regular bail.
While rejecting to hear Nitesh’s pre-arrest bail application, the Supreme Court ordered the Maharashtra Police not to arrest him for ten days in an attempted murder case.
The judgement was issued by a high court bench led by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana in response to a petition filed by Rane contesting a Bombay High Court order dismissing his anticipatory bail application in an attempted murder case on January 17th.
Notably, Rane has been charged with being the primary conspirator in the attempted murder of a Shiv Sena member on December 18, 2021, in Maharashtra’s Kankavli district. After his anticipatory bail application was denied by the Sindhudurg Sessions Court, he went to the High Court. According to Rane’s filing, the FIR was lodged against him because he allegedly mocked Shiv Sena leader and State Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
