According to an official, the Goa government started demolishing the contentious eatery at Anjuna in North Goa on Friday morning due to violations of the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) standards.
The top court made it clear that just the plot 42/10 property, which is the ancient hut inside the restaurant, won’t be torn down. It said that any more unauthorised structures in Anjuna might be destroyed and that there was no general moratorium on demolitions.
The National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order was the subject of a shack owner’s petition, which was mentioned on Friday before a bench consisting of Chief Justice of India UU Lalit and Justices S Ravindra Bhat and PS Narasimha for urgent listing and temporary relief.
The Court mentioned that the NGT decision ordering the structure’s demolition for breaking the rules for the Coastal Regulation Zone was passed on September 6 and that the demolition was already under progress.
Additionally, it requested that the State of Goa submit its response by next Wednesday, September 14.
For the appellant, senior attorney Huzefa Ahmadi made an appearance.
