New Delhi, May 6: The Supreme Court said on Friday that it will hear Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan’s plea seeking interim bail next Wednesday.
The Allahabad High Court had reserved its order on Azam Khan’s bail application in the case, an attorney told a bench led by Justices L Nageswara Rao. The Supreme Court further noted that 137 days had elapsed and no order has been issued. The Supreme Court has declared it a mockery of justice and has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday.
Azam Khan has also been granted bail in 86 other cases, according to the court. Later, the Uttar Pradesh government filed a new appeal to provide some new facts in the case, and Allahabad High Court heard his bail application again.
This is the only case where Azam Khan’s bail application is pending. Notably, Khan has been held in Sitapur jail since February 2020, when he was charged in multiple charges.
