New Delhi, Aug 30: Schoolgirls in New Delhi tied rakhis to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a way to celebrate the bond between siblings on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
With smiles on their faces, the schoolchildren greeted PM Modi as he walked into the classroom and performed the ritual of tying the sacred thread to him.
Prime Minister Modi gave the girls a warm grin and asked about their names and classes as they stood up to tie the rakhi.
One of the girls gave PM Modi a soft peck on the cheek as he bent down to bless her.
The schoolgirls took turns tying rakhis while PM Modi was seated on a chair.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister also took part in a group photograph with the schoolgirls and teachers.
The specially crafted rakhis that the girls used to tie around PM Modi’s wrist featured his image.
With customary pomp and fervour, the nation is celebrating the festival that symbolizes the enduring love between a brother and a sister.
