Ranchi, Oct 13: Schools in Ranchi are focusing more on studies that suffered due to the pandemic in the past one and half years rather than focusing on the National Achievement Survey (NAS)examination which is to be conducted by CBSE on November 12.

The Secretary of the Department of School Education and Literacy Rajesh Kumar Sharma said that this exam is conducted every three years and the focus should be on the gap created in the education due to the pandemic.

“Our priority is to fill in the gap created due to the lockdown, though the preparation is going for that also at the school level and JCERT has provided sample papers for that,” Secretary Sharma added.

The Principal of Marwari High School Ashish Kumar said that the school is closed as of now but the preparation is being done on the basis of the sample papers provided.

“Our focus will be on both the academics as well as the NAS exam as it is also to measure the standard. But the main problem is that the syllabus is lagging behind which is to be covered first so that students can appear in the exams with confidence,” Kumar said.

“Till now the schools have not been selected and every school has to prepare for the exam and it will be informed to schools 5-6 days prior to the exams,” he further added.

This national-level survey would be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as Assessment Administrator for Grade 3, 5, 8 and 10 students of State Govt. schools; Govt. Aided schools; Private Unaided recognized schools and Central Government schools.

The Jharkhand Council of Educational Research and Training (JCERT) has started the preparation for the examination and has made available two sample papers to every district of the state.

This year students of classes 3, 5, 8 and 10 will participate in the examination. The students of classes 3 and 5 will appear in three papers, class 8 students in four papers, and class 10 students in five papers.

A total of 38,87,759 students from 1,23,729 schools across the country will appear for the exam.

Schools across the country will be ranked on the basis of this test in which 3500 schools from Jharkhand will participate. Jharkhand ranked 8th in the survey conducted in 2017.

The exam is conducted at a regular interval of three years, but it was postponed in 2020 in the wake of Covid-19
