Jamshedpur, Sept 3: In an attempt to curb ticketless travel, South Eastern Railway had conducted an intensive ticket checking drive during the month of August under its jurisdiction including two railway divisions in Jharkhand – Ranchi and Chakradharpur.
During the intensive drive, a total number of 66,476 cases were detected travelling without a ticket or with an improper ticket or with unbooked luggage and an amount of Rs. 3,44,65,779/-was realized as fare and penalty.
A total number of 60,690 cases of ticketless travel has been detected and an amount of Rs 3,40,01,613/- was realized from ticketless travellers.
Moreover, 5,786 unbooked luggage has also been detected and an amount of Rs. 4,64,166 has been realized from unbooked luggage cases.
Statistics available from SER headquarters suggest that a total number of 1,439 different types of checks, viz. magisterial check, ambush check, fortress check etc were conducted during the month of August by SE Railway against ticketless travelers.
Tatanagar railway station director H K Balmuchu said the drive against free trippers will continue in September too.
He went on to say that the drive will continue keeping in view the festive season ahead.
