Ranchi, June 14: The effect of Section 144 in Ranchi has also made an impact on the upcoming sports event in the city as the 12th Jharkhand State Junior/Sub-Junior Swimming Competition which was supposed to be held on June 12 has been postponed.
As per the information provided by the swimming coach of the Sports Authority of Jharkhand (SAJHA), the competition is expected to take place on June 26 or 27 if the situation in the city becomes normal by then.
“The competition was supposed to take place on June 5 but since the pools were not clean, it was postponed to June 12. Now, it has been further delayed due to the current scenario. We are expecting the competition to begin on June 26,” said Umesh, swimming coach of SAJHA.
He also said that it has turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it has given the athletes a little more time to practice and sharpen their skills before the state championship. He also said that on June 21, a final trial for the Ranchi district will be held and around 50 swimmers will participate from Ranchi. Out of these, the final swimmers will be selected who will participate in the competition.
“The swimmers are practicing regularly in the Hotwar stadium as they stay in the nearby hostel. The preparations are almost done and we are hoping for a good show by them this year,” the coach added.
