Jammu, Oct.16: Umar Mustaq Khandey, a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and one of the top ten terrorists, is trapped in an encounter with security forces in the Pampore area of Pulwama district, according to the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
According to the authorities, Khandey is one of the top militants targeted by security agents since a hitlist was revealed in August of this year. He was also engaged in the assassination of two police officers in Baghat, Srinagar, earlier this year.
“LeT commander amongst top 10 terrorists namely Umar Mustaq Khandey who was involved in killing of two police personnel at Baghat Srinagar and other terror crimes trapped in Pampore encounter,” the Kashmir Zone Police informed through a tweet.
The other top targets include Salim Parray, Yousuf Kantroo, Abbas Sheikh, Reyaz Shetergund, Farooq Nali, Zubair Wani, Ashraf Molvi, Saqib Manzoor and Wakeel Shah.

Meanwhile, security personnel continue to search the Bhata-Durian area, which is near to the Dehra Ki Gali (DKG) woodland ridge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri-Poonch district. On the evening of October 14, the Army conducted a counter-terrorist operation in the Nar Khas Forest area of Mendhar, Poonch. A strong exchange of fire occurred during the operation, and two Army men, Rifleman Vikram Singh Negi and Rifleman Yogambar Singh, were seriously injured and ultimately died as a result of their injuries.
On Friday, vehicular traffic was prohibited on the route between Bhimber Gali and Surankote, according to police.
On October 11, five Army servicemen, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were killed in anti-terrorist operations in the DKG area of Rajouri, which is next to the Poonch sector.
DGP Dilbag Singh of J&K also chaired a meeting with senior police on Friday to examine the security situation.
