Mumbai, Oct.19: In a highly volatile trade on Tuesday, equity indices continued to achieve new highs. In late trade, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose 251 points, or 0.41 percent, to 62,017, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 53 points, or 0.29 percent, to 18,530.
During the late trades, both the BSE and NSE indexes gave up early gains to go into the red, but quickly recovered. In addition, the 30-share BSE index hit an intraday high of 62,245.
Tech Mahindra, Larsen and Toubro, Bajaj Finserv, Infosys, Reliance Industries, and Mahindra & Mahindra were among the top gainers on the BSE pack, with their shares jumping as much as 5.05 percent. ITC, UltraTech Cements, Titan, PowerGrid, Tata Steel, and Dr. Reddy’s were among the top losers.
Nifty IT outpaced the index by as much as 2.76 percent on the NSE platform. The Nifty Financial Services and Media indexes were also up. Except for the three sub-indices indicated, the rest of the sectoral indices were in the red.
