Mumbai, Oct.13: On Wednesday, equity indices continued to hit new highs, powered by increases in Tata Group stocks. In late trades, the benchmark BSE Sensex gained 512 points, or 0.85%, to a new intraday high of 60,797, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 179 points, or 1%, to 18,171.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Titan, PowerGrid, Tata Steel, Larsen and Toubro, and Sun Pharma were among the top gainers on the BSE pack, with their shares jumping as much as 6.80 percent.
BSE-listed businesses’ market capitalization, or m-cap, has reached a new high of 271.11 lakh crore.
In late transactions, 1,816 stocks climbed, 1,457 dropped, and 150 remained unchanged on the BSE. The BSE SmallCap and BSE Midcap indexes both increased by 0.62 percent and 1.46 percent, respectively.
Except for Nifty Realty, all other sub-indices on the NSE platform were trading in the green, with Nifty Auto outperforming the index by 4.16 percent.
Tata Motors’ stock rose as much as 23.35 percent to Rs.519.10.
Tata Power’s stock soared 17.75 percent to Rs.230.55. Titan shares increased by 4.19 percent to Rs. 2,597.15, while Tata Chemical rose by 15.79 percent to Rrs. 1,124.05.
TCS’s stock, on the other hand, stayed largely unchanged, falling 0.06 percent to Rs. 3,650.55.
The macroeconomic statistics also helped to bolster investor mood. Retail inflation in the country fell to a five-month low in September, according to figures released on Tuesday.
The government also permitted domestic planes to operate at full capacity, which boosted airline stocks.
Infosys’ stock rose 0.88 percent to Rs 1,699.95 a share. After market hours, the IT behemoth will release its second-quarter results for the current fiscal year 2021-22 (FY22).
