Jamshedpur, Nov 3: A 17-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging on the premises of Seraikela thana’s child-friendly police station in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, about 35 km away on Wednesday night.
Notably, the juvenile delinquent was accused of abducting a minor girl and was languishing in the child-friendly for the past three days after being caught with the eloped girl. He used his leather strap to hang from an iron rod in the thana lock up at night, triggering sensation among the police officials.
Moreover, Seraikela-Kharsawan district superintendent of police, Anand Prakash on Thursday suspended the Seraikela thana OC, Manohar Kumar on finding him on dereliction of duty.
A resident of Dhalbhumgarh block in the Ghatsila sub-division of the East Singhbhum district, the deceased had allegedly abducted a minor girl for marriage from Seraikela’s Gohira village on October 26, leading the aggrieved family members to lodge an FIR in the police station.
Incidentally, the girl’s parents had searched both the love-birds on their own and handed the accused to the police on October 27. The police had kept the delinquent in the police lock-up for the next three days on the pretext of interrogation instead of forwarding him to judicial custody.
“A juvenile delinquent has committed suicide at the child-friendly police station of Seraikela thana. We have suspended the OC, Manohar Kumar for the dereliction of his duty,” said SP while talking to lagatar24.com.
He said the Seraikela circle inspector, Ram Anup Mahto has been given an additional charge as OC, Seraikela thana till further order.
Prakash, who had visited the Seraikela thana for probing the custodial death, said that the body of the juvenile accused was in a medical board at the Seraikela Sadar Hospital.
