Bhagalpur, Mar 4: An explosion in the Bhagalpur region of Bihar on Thursday night killed at least seven persons, including a toddler, and injured several more.
“Prima facie it is coming to light that the family residing in the house where the explosion took place was involved in making firecrackers,” the Bhagalpur District Magistrate, Subrat Kumar Sen, told ANI.
He further stated that at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday night, a large explosion occurred in a building near Yatimkhana in the Kajvalichak neighbourhood. When police learned of the event, they dispatched a team of officers, including senior officers, to the scene. The JCB is being used to transport the debris from the collapsed building.
According to reports, the number of deaths and injuries could rise as the debris removal process continues. The blast was so powerful that it entirely destroyed the building, as well as the walls of three adjoining dwellings.
People sleeping in nearby houses have been seriously harmed. The blast could be heard for several kilometres. DM noted that more investigation is being done.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his grief on the incident and wished for fast recovery of the injured. He also talked to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and took cognizance of the rescue operation.
“The news of loss of life due to blast in Bhagalpur, Bihar is painful. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Talked to Chief Minister @NitishKumar on the circumstances related to the incident. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations, and all possible assistance is being provided to the victims,” he wrote on Twitter in Hindi.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar also expressed condolences to families of people who died in the explosion and wished for swift recovery of the injured. He has directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to probe the matter and take action.
