New Delhi, March 11: Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Saturday described how her father sexually assaulted her when she was a child.
Maliwal reported that the DCW had informed the Delhi Police to look into the recordings and apprehend those responsible after becoming aware of viral videos depicting harassment during Holi.
“I was sexually assaulted by my father when I was a child. He used to beat me up, I used to hide under the bed,” she said.
“A video went viral on the internet where some men were applying Holi colours to a Japanese woman, she was feeling harassed, molested and screaming for help. Those men did not stop. We are issuing a notice to Delhi Police. Those men should be identified and put behind jail,” she added.
Khushbu Sundar, a leader in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a member of the National Commission for Women, previously stated that her father had assaulted her sexually and that she is not ashamed of the fact that she has come forward.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court on Friday temporarily stayed the proceedings against Swati Maliwal in a corruption case until the next hearing date. Maliwal had contested the allegations brought against her by the trial court under the Prevention of Corruption (POC) Act in December 2022. During August 2015 and 2016, the DCW director is believed to have abused her authority by improperly selecting friends.
