Mumbai, Nov 25: The Bombay High Court on Thursday set aside the sentence of death penalty of the three accused and sent them to life imprisonment in connection with the 2013 Shakti Mill Gang Rape Case.

The HC bench of justices, SS Jadhav and PK Chavan, pronounced his sentence to be commuted. The bench held that the convicts “don’t deserve to assimilate in society.”

The death sentence to the three accused Vijay Jadhav, Kasim Bengali and salim Ansari was given in April 2014, by the Mumbai Sessions Court.

Notably, 22-year-old photo-journalist had complained of being gang-raped in August 2013, at the overgrown, defunct mill compound at Mahalaxmi in Mumbai by five persons. A 19 year old telephone operator too then registered a case alleging gang-rape at the same mill compound and the accused were mostly the same.
